根據日本國土交通省28日公佈的統計數據顯示，2013年5月份日本國內新屋開工戶數較去年同月大增14.5%至79,751戶，連續第9個月呈現增長、增幅創7個月來(2012年10月以來；大增25.2%)新高水準，並遠優於Thomson Reuters事前所作調查成長6.2%的預估值；經季節性因素調整後的年率換算值為102.7萬戶，較前月增加9.4%。此外，當月日本新屋開工面積較去年同月增加13.0%至717.7萬平方公尺，連續第9個月呈現增長。

從5月份新屋開工戶數的細項區分，自用住宅開工戶數較去年同月上揚13.5%至28,902戶，連續第9個月呈現增長；租賃住宅開工戶數成長11.6%至26,614戶，連續第3個月呈現增長；社區住宅開工戶數大增21.7%至23,911戶，3個月來首度呈現增長。

國土交通省並同時公佈5月份日本建築業訂單額(以日本50大建築商為統計對象)較去年同月大增26.0%至7,781億日圓，連續第2個月呈現增長。其中，民間工程訂單大增26.6%至5,423億日圓，連續第2個月呈現增長；公共工程大增32.7%至1,738億日圓，連續第2個月呈現增長。
