Samsung Electronics began to have Taiwan-based makers undertake OEM production of below 42-inch LCD TVs for sale in the Taiwan market in 2012 and will extend production to 50-, 55- and 65-inch models in 2013, according to Samsung Taiwan.
However, 65-inch and above size high-end models will still be imported into the Taiwan market, said Samsung. Samsung also believes that flat screen TV sales in Taiwan will reach between 1.1-1.2 million units, flat on year, with smart TVs and units sized 46-inch and above to see the biggest growth.
Meanwhile, industry sources said that about 90% of LG Electronics TVs sold in the Taiwan market are assembled by OEM Qisda.
