龍捲風襲美 死亡數持續攀升

（中央社底特律18日綜合外電報導）美國中西部昨天受到一連串強勁暴風雨和龍捲風重創，密西根州官員今天證實，密州有兩人喪生，使得死亡人數增至8人。

警方表示，一名14歲男童因抓到掉落電線送醫不治，一名21歲男子昨晚因座車遭倒下樹木重壓而喪生。

伊利諾州有6人死亡，州內華盛頓市（Washington）大片市區被夷為平地，警方今天早上要求居民離開這座城市。

有1萬5000人口的華盛頓市市長馬尼爾（GaryManier）表示，華盛頓市有一人喪生，250至500棟民宅遭到摧毀。

他指出，當局不斷疏散居民，是因為關切未倒的建築物搖搖欲墜，可能造成危險。

風暴造成飛機停飛，數以萬計人家停電，強風吹翻車輛，樹木連根拔起，電線被吹斷。

伊利諾州緊急事故管理局主任蒙肯（JonathonMonken）稍早告訴美國有線電視新聞網（CNN），至少5人喪生，他同時警告，受傷人數很可能會「大幅」增加。

根據美聯社，緊急事故管理局後來又證實第6名死者。

由於當地通訊困難，許多道路不通，這起在季末來襲的不尋常強勁龍捲風，至今造成多少死傷仍不明。

華盛頓市嚴重受損，當地一名居民透過電話說：「一整個區都不見了，我的房子只剩下壁爐的一面牆。」
