布局雲端電視商機？三星併購機上盒製造商Boxee

華爾街日報報導，三星電子證實，以色列機上盒公司Boxee已被該公司收購，交易金額約在3,000萬美元左右。

三星發言人於一封電子郵件上表示，併購Boxee使得三星擁有關鍵人才與資產，將有助於提升旗下各聯網裝置的使用者體驗。

串流媒體播放器Boxee Cloud DVR為Boxee旗下的主要產品，透過該裝置，使用者可錄製電視以及多媒體數位內容，並在平板電腦或類似裝置撥放。

儘管三星的智慧型電視不需透過機上盒即可上網，但知情人士指出，三星對Boxee的雲端儲存與使用者介面特別感興趣。據市場調查機構Informa Telecoms & Media統計，去年全球共熱銷5,400萬台智慧型電視，預估4年後出貨量將上看2.21億台。
