【施旖婕／綜合外電報導】極地漩渦為美國帶來20年來最嚴寒的天氣，部分地區更打破近百年來的最低溫紀錄。美國國家氣象局預料，寒流將會逐步減弱。這場惡劣天氣也造成至少22人死亡，部分人是在戶外鏟雪時意外身亡。

據《法新社》報導，星期二測得比火星表面氣溫還低的溫度，只有-37°C的明尼蘇達州城市恩巴勒斯，星期三已經回升到-25°C。氣象局指出，東部3分之2地區天氣回暖，航空交通逐漸回復正常。而紐約最低氣溫曾跌至-16°C，打破當地118年來的低溫記錄。
