在京都街道的陰影處活躍的謎之情報通

長州藩士　新堀松輔（にいぼり まつすけ）

看似什麼都無所謂的男人，其實也是個決不讓任何人抓到破綻的男人。自己承認了新堀這個名字是假名，且幾乎無人知道他的真實身分。

但是他是活躍在京都的少數情報通之一，而且絕對是長州的重要人物之一。看似全身充滿破綻，但其實一點破綻也沒有。劍術技巧也十分高超。

據說在京都的某處開了一間店，而那也是他的活動據點，經營等都交給他的女人處理。但這件事究竟是真是假也沒有人知道。

因為某個「原因」而開始尋找其他劍術高手的新堀，在得知了龍馬的存在後，決定要說服他加入長州，可是……
