印度日記作家蘇絲米塔‧班尼吉在阿富汗遭人槍殺死亡。班尼吉的丈夫是阿富汗商人，她撰寫的回憶錄，一九九五年逃離阿富汗神學士掌控的經過，讓她成為印度知名人物，回憶錄在二○○三年由寶萊塢拍成電影《逃出塔利班》。

四十九歲的班尼吉最近返回阿富汗與丈夫居住，警方表示，神學士好戰分子抵達帕提卡省她的住家，綑綁她的丈夫、家人，將她拉出門外槍殺，棄屍一所宗教學校附近。目前尚無團體聲稱幹下此案。

班尼吉是帕提卡省衛生人員，拍攝當地婦女生活是她的部分工作。她與丈夫在加爾各答認識，一九八九年隨丈夫前往阿富汗，她寫道：「生活原本可以忍受，直到一九九三年神學士開始鎮壓，命令她關閉經營的藥房，罵她是沒有道德的女人。」（英國廣播公司）
