電腦編碼轉碼的問題

雖然網路上有眾多解釋，但都屬專業術語看不太懂，可否請大大們以淺顯易懂的方式解釋一下有關我對編碼的疑惑…
1. unicode 分為utf-8 utf-16 utf-32 ？還是說unicode 和utf-8 utf-16 utf-32是各自不同的編碼方式？

2.聽說win xp是用utf-8 win7是utf-16 哪，utf-32是 win8？？？

3.承第2個問題，是指凡xp，無論使用任何軟體打出來的字都屬utf-8？而win7 必然是utf-16…的意思嗎？那我用win7打的文件，到winxp一樣可以正常顯示…這如何解釋？

4.那，有什麼辦法知道，一編文章，或一個txt檔，它到底是用哪一種編碼？如果一個big5的檔要轉成utf-16要怎樣知道轉檔確實無誤？

5.所謂轉成utf-16 ，big5等編碼的差別是僅僅在於中文？還是包含其數字的編碼方式也不一樣？將big5轉成utf-16 ，一般是指僅中文部份？還是連英文數字等全部？
