利特所屬SM經紀公司六日發出新聞稿，指其父親和祖父母車禍身亡，稍晚才傳出自殺消息，一時間死因眾說紛紜。隔天一早韓媒各種扒糞消息出籠，有媒體認為，這是對經紀公司第一時間放假新聞的報復行為。

前晚車禍消息一出，韓網站紛紛跟進，卻遲遲不見車禍現場照片和警方消息，新聞中也未提及車禍地點、時間和原因，媒體、歌迷去電消防局確認，查清並無此事。媒體因而展開真相大追查，SM公司後改口：「是以家人的立場，想保護遺屬。」韓媒斥SM身為最大的娛樂經紀公司，公開說謊太不可取。

但也有媒體表明自律，Korea Dispatch在推特發表聲明：「這不是一件名人娛樂事件，而是隨時有可能發生在你我身邊的家族悲劇。」並表示不再報導相關新聞。

另有記者表示：「或許身為公眾人物，利特需要滿足大眾的好奇心，也就是所謂大眾『知的權利』；但失去三位親人，是凡人『朴正洙』的心情重要，還是『藝人利特』的家族史重要？」呼籲媒體自律，讓利特暫離鎂光燈，回歸為人子、為人孫的心情。
